Industry Promotion Initiatives

Surat Diamond Association has undertaken a number of initiatives in order to formalize the SME’s associated with the Surat diamond industry.

Empower ID Program

Artisans are the main facet of the Diamond industry. Without them, no diamond will achieve its brilliance. In an effort to improve the future and security of local artisans in the diamond industry, Surat Diamond Association has undertaken a project called “Empower ID” in association with the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC). The Empower ID Program is the first step towards organizing the highly unorganized SME sector of the local diamond industry. The program aims to gather an inclusive database of the 700,000 artisans associated with the Surat diamond industry. Upon completion of the database, SDA plans to approach the State and Central Governments about programs that will improve the welfare of the artisans in sectors such as health, education and more.

One of the guest speakers at the seminar, Mr. Dhaval Parikh – General Manager, District Industries Centre Surat—explained the benefits of registration and the importance of the actions of each individual organization to organize the unorganized sector.
